Active Residency – working for yourself

Through forming a company in Andorra. This residency is suitable for clients who plan to move to Andorra, since there is a requirement to stay in the country for more than 183 days per year. Procedure to form a company lasts at least 2-4 months plus 1 month to obtain residency. It is necessary to rent an apartment (around 500 EUR per month), to pay yourself a salary, minimum 1000 EUR net plus 20% social and pension insurance. Possible family reunion.

  • Client is a tax resident of Andorra and is given an Andorran Tax Number
  • If the client is a tax resident of Andorra, Automatic Exchange of Information will not be applied with any country other than Andorra
  • Flat rate tax of 10% on worldwide income
  • Dividends from Andorran company are not taxed
  • Tax declaration should be submited until the 30th of June in the year following the fiscal year
  • No double taxation. All taxes paid on income abroad will not be paid in Andorra

Period of Authorization

The first authorization is for one year, renewable three times for periods of two years. Within seven years, the successive renewals provide for periods lasting ten years, except for nationals of states that have signed and ratified an agreement with the Principality of Andorra.

How is it done?

All documents provided from other countries must be certified with an Apostille and translated into Catalan.

  1. Applications and forms for residence permit duly filled and signed.
  2. Original and photocopy of the passport. Nationals of Member States of the European Union and the European Economic Area may, alternatively, submit the original and a photocopy of their national identity documents.
  3. Local ID card (notarized copy with Apostille)
  4. Criminal record certificate from the country of origin, country of nationality and country of residence.
  5. A color photograph (35 x 45 mm) recently taken, within less than six months before the application, with the face fully visible and head uncovered.
  6. Document proving accommodation, a copy of the lease, a copy of the title deed or other certificate certifying an accommodation in a public establishment, must be attached in addition to a certificate of residence if the owner of the house is not the person making the request.
  7. A document certifying marital status:
    • Single / a: single official certificate or affidavit signed by the applicant declaring his/hers single status .
    • Married: official certificate of marriage (or certified copy).
    • Separated: original and or certified copy of the judgment of separation.
    • Divorced: Certified copy of divorce judgment.
    • Widower / widow: original or certified copy of the death certificate of spouse.
  8. Curriculum vitae with original and photocopy of diplomas or other documents proving the professional qualifications.
  9. Medical test

* All official documents issued by authorities of foreign states must be authenticated with the Apostille of the Hague Convention or legalized.
** All documents should be translated into Catalan or Spanish. In order to minimize the expenses documents can be translated into Catalan or Spanish languages in your home country and afterwards official translator in Andorra can confirm the translation.
*** You must register for the Common parish in which it resides within a maximum period of three months from the date of grant of the authorization of immigration and justify this registration within the same period.
**** Immigration authorities keep right to ask for additional documents at any stage of the process.

Passive residence

Can be obtained in case a client invests minimum 400.000 EUR in Andorra. 50.000 is a non-interest loan to Andorran Government , which is returned in case the client does not want to become a resident of Andorra.
For additional 10.000 EUR of deposit to INAF each family member can become a resident of Andorra.
350.000 EUR is the amount that should be invested in bank deposit or other banking instrument, against which the bank can grant a back to back loan or invested in real estate or in own company capital. Required length of stay in Andorra is minimum 90 days per year.. The entire process takes not less than two months. It is required to rent an apartment..
Possible family reunion.

  • Client may choose whether to become a tax resident of Andorra or not, and whether he wants to get Andorran Tax Number.

Documentation Required

A.- Titular of the passive residence.

  1. Criminal record certificate dispatched from the home country and also from other countries where client have been a resident.
  2. Passport (original and a copy are required).
  3. Original of recent photograph (3,5 x 4 cm).
  4. Local ID card (notarized copy with Apostille)
  5. Rental agreement of an Andorran property or an Andorran ownership deed.
  6. Marriage certificate
  7. Private medical, disability and retirement insurance with an Andorran insurance company. Approximate price 1200 EUR / year. Price may vary depending from applicant age.
  8. Proof that the main principal has more than 300% of the Andorra’s living wage income. This 300% percent has to be increased for a 100% for each son and wife/husband. Corroborating documents are issued by the bank.
  9. Special requirements for non-EU countries (might be applied):
    • List of all the residences during the last 5 years proved by “local ID” or council certificates.
    • List of all jobs during the last 5 years, proved by a labour register or company’s certificates. Name and legal address of every company are required.
    • List of all the companies where a solicitor controls more than 25% of stake and / or where the solicitor has powers of attorney or holds a senior official position. It is also required to present the Articles of Association, and the Registry Certificate of those companies.
    • Annual tax declaration from the last 5 years proved by the copies of such declarations and the Tax Office legal certificate.

B.- Spouse (husband or wife) of the passive residence titular.

  1. Criminal record certificate from the home country and also from other countries where he/she have been resident, validated with the The Hague Apostille.
  2. Passport (original and a copy are required).
  3. Recent photograph (3,5 x 4 cm).
  4. Private medical, disability and retirement insurance with an Andorra’s insurance company. Price arround 1200 EUR per month depending on the client’s age.
  5. Special requirements for non-EU countries:
    • List of all the residences during the last 5 years proved by “local ID” or council certificates.
    • List of all jobs during the last 5 years, proved by labour register or company’s certificates. Name and legal address of every company are required.
    • List of all the companies where a solicitor controls more than 25% of stake and / or where the solicitor has powers of attorney or holds a senior official position. It ss also required to present the Articles of Aassociation and Mercantile Register certificate of such companies.
    • Annual tax declaration from the last 5 years proved by the copies of such declarations and the Tax Office legal certificate.

C.- Child of the passive residence titular:

  1. Birth certificate with the Apostille under The Hague Convention.
  2. Vaccination record (copy).
  3. Health certificate.
  4. Original and recent photograph (3,5 x 4 cm).
  5. Passport (original and a copy are required).
  6. Private health insurance with an Andorra’s insurance company.
  7. Certificate of school attendance.
